Ugo Mulas e Alexander Calder. Un grande fotografo e un grande artista legati da un'amicizia profonda. Il frutto visibile di questo incontro sono le centinaia di foto dell'istrionico artista americano, della sua famiglia, delle sue opere e delle sue case di Roxbury e Saché (Stati Uniti e Francia) scattate da Mulas, un "album di famiglia che rivelasse l'amore per il suo lavoro e la gioia che la sua amicizia mi dava". La scelta di immagini qui presentata, curata da Melina Mulas, figlia di Ugo e a sua volta nota fotografa, mette in evidenza il ruolo di critica d'arte non verbalizzata dello sguardo di Mulas. Il fotografo seppe infatti cogliere, come scrive Argan, "con incredibile finezza l'affinità genetica tra le opere e l'artista che le faceva, e nello stesso tempo la loro intima contraddizione, come se la leggerezza delle sculture riscattasse la gran massa del corpo dello scultore e la loro volubilità fosse uguale a quella del suo carattere bonario e capriccioso, espresso dal ciuffo dei capelli bianchissimi sempre scompigliati da un vento inesistente".
