Description : Composizione a quattro pannelli

Mixed media on canvas applied to wooden panels, showing a sequence. On the lower right the artist's initials GB and the numbering of the panels; on the verso of each panel is the signature in full, with the date and the following sequential titles: 'By Bosch', 'Declination of an Owl', 'Transcription' and 'Disappearance for Coquetry'. Gabriella Benedini has defined her as an artist as 'a nomad in search of the profound meaning of things'. Although attracted and interested first by abstract-informal painting, then by Existential Realism and then by the New Figuration, Gabriella Benedini proceeds on a strictly personal quest that cannot be assimilated into any specific current. The entire 1970s were mainly marked by pictorial works that reflected literary cues filtered through her need for growth and confrontation. Then, through her passion for Alchemy, Benedini began to transform anything that came her way into works of art; shells, pages of old books, bottles, everything is combined into a harmonious whole that recalls spaces. Her works therefore become mainly three-dimensional, either to hang on the wall, or they are sculptures, even large ones. The four panels are presented here in a single frame.

Additional Information

Artist: Gabriella Benedini (1932)

Gabriella Benedini was born in Cremona in 1932, graduated from the Paolo Toschi Art Institute in Parma and then attended the Brera Academy. He stayed in Paris from 1958 to 1960 where he held personal exhibitions and participated in collective exhibitions. He returns to Milan and begins to exhibit with the Bergamini Gallery in the period of Existential Realism. His trips to Africa, Asia and America are significant. His research continues in the field of painting, but he elaborates many experiences with different languages including cinematographic one; in fact in 1972 he created two super 8s Doprenoi and Diuto. In 1977 she was one of the founders of the Metamorfosi Group with which she exhibited in Italy and abroad. Since the beginning of the 1980s his research has shifted towards sculpture; thus were born the Stories of the earth-Mutations (1977-1980), the Theaters of 'melancholy' (1984), the Pendulums of time (1985), the Protractors (from 1989), the Sextants (1992), the Constellations (1993) . Different materials found and processed extend further and further into space, from installations (The Theater of Persephone, 1985) to Harps (1991). Her interest in the word and in books led her to create 'artist's books' until reaching the tactile volumes of Bibliotheca, of which there are three series (1990, 1996, 2001), each of thirty unique examples. These are book-objects, unique works of art, boxes, containers of fragments, things to discover.
