Additional Information

Artist: Edoardo Salvestrini (1947)

Born in Padua in 1947, Edoardo Salvestrini attended lower secondary schools in Mantua, a city that fascinates him with its ancient streets and squares; he then lives for a year in Ariccia (Rome), where he discovers the Roman baroque art of the church of Santa Maria Assunta. Having moved with his family to Milan in 1961, he attended the graphic-design courses of the Humanitarian Society, and subsequently the Brera Academy. Later as a graphic designer he collaborated with important studios and companies, including Olivetti, Franco Maria Ricci editore and Unimark International. In the 80s he dedicated himself to editorial illustration. At the same time as these activities, he studied music and opera singing since 1970 at the Training School for Artists of the Teatro alla Scala Choir and began singing in choirs and as a soloist, in concerts and theatrical performances. From 1982 to 1993 he attended with great interest the courses and conferences of Baba Pyare Lal Bedi, an Indian philosopher and writer, who with his methods of profound self-observation opened up a new perspective of creativity regarding singing, painting and function of Art in society. This experience and the practice of his activities lead him to create two techniques: The Song of the Soul for self-expression through the voice, and Self-Expression Through Color, which he teaches in stable and intensive courses until 2016. In 1986 he resumed drawing and painting with commitment and began to exhibit his works. Passionate about the study and observation of the great masters of the past starting from Titian, he discovered painting understood as a primary element beyond the image, the subject. This painting material is clearly visible in El Greco, Rembrandt, Watteau and Goya, but the intuitions and preferences regarding the beauty of painting find confirmation and new nourishment in particular in the study of the works and writings of Giorgio de Chirico, especially those of so-called Romantic-Baroque period. Salvestrini's paintings of recent years represent views of the cities in which he lived or fantastic views; fruit compositions, often called Natura Immobile; mythological representations in which the deformation and movement of the figures express primordial, eternal energies. His painting is increasingly free, created with clear brushstrokes and through juxtapositions, overlays and glazes to reinforce reflections, highlights and intensity of tones.
