The role of light in architecture extends well beyond practical requirements. Light can create an environment, saturate a space with emotion, and compose spatial illusions. When manipulated in the right ways, light makes an architectural space livable, shapes it, and guides the inhabitant through it. As our homes and buildings become increasingly interactive and connected to the “internet of things” (where physical objects such as a lamp or microwave are programmed in the “cloud”), the creative possibilities for lighting are growing exponentially.

Some 200 projects are organized into three sections: lighting that transforms space, lighting that alters the experience of time, and lighting that evokes emotion or psychological change. La collezione Bellini-Pezzoli si forma a Milano dagli anni Sessanta del Novecento indirizzandosi verso l'opera di artisti contemporanei - sia italiani che stranieri - che hanno scelto il vetro come medium espressivo. In catalogo, oltre a manufatti appartenenti a una produzione in serie di altissimo livello, pezzi unici di artisti del vetro quali i veneziani Silvano Rubino, Michele Burato, Luciano Vistosi o il giapponese Yoichi Ohira, che interpreta il mondo del vetro muranese alla luce della sua formazione orientale. Particolare attenzione viene riservata al muranese Lino Tagliapietra, oramai oggetto di unanime riconoscimento internazionale. Infine sono presenti opere dello statunitense Studio Glass (artisti quali Dale Chihuly, Richard Marquis, Toots Zynsky) oltre a quelle di Clara Belfrage e Tim Edwards provenienti dall'Australia.
