Venti racconti di Julien Green che esplorano strade differenti e sperimentano vari modi di mettere in scena il mistero, il fantastico e il perturbante. Prose che attraversano tutto il periodo d'oro dello scrittore francese, composte tra il 1920 e il 1956 e raccolte in volume nel 1984. Tra di esse anche la prima prova letteraria di Green, il racconto "L'apprendista psichiatra", scritto in inglese a vent'anni, quando frequentava l'Università della Virginia, e poi tradotto in francese. Molte di queste storie hanno in comune, come suggerisce il titolo della raccolta, quell'istante di vertigine capace di scuotere una vita e cambiare un destino: un improvviso turbine di follia, che può manifestarsi sotto forma di audacia o ritrosia, di fuga in avanti o di fuga tout court. Serpeggia per i racconti una sessualità disorientata e febbrile che, agita o repressa, fa quasi immancabilmente il male di chi ne è portatore (o, altrimenti, dell'essere indifeso che la subisce). In questa edizione si ripete l'esperienza di traduzione collettiva inaugurata con "Viaggiatore in terra". A interpretare la scrittura di Julien Green sono cinque voci diverse, tre esperti traduttori (Giuseppe Girimonti Greco, Lorenza Di Lelia e Francesca Scala) affiancati da due narratori colti e raffinati come Ezio Sinigaglia e Filippo Tuena.

Louis Philippe dressing table in rosewood veneer. Oval beveled mirror with a sheet metal border, supported by pierced uprights carved with scrolls, flowers, and leaves, as is the cornice. Central drawer under the top, curved legs joined by a crosspiece to the base with a central spandrel, ebonized carvings and mirror. White marble top. Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, third quarter of the 19th century.

Switzerland, 1950s

Imhof table clock in gilded and burnished brass. Three carved stem flowers emerge from a solid hammered brass base with burnished leaves. The largest flower encloses the clock case, and the manufacturer's mark is in the center of the dial.

The set includes a soup tureen, a sauceboat, five oval and one round serving plates, ten soup plates, twenty-four dinner plates, twenty-two side plates, twelve consommé cups and saucers, and a six-person coffee set. Manufacturer's mark under the base.
