Charles X Wardrobe Rosewood Italy 19th Century

Inlaid cabinet

Wardrobe with one door and a drawer. It appears architecturally as a plinth with a rectangular base on vase-like feet and marked on the top with a light frame. To break the architectural balance there are two twisted all round columns siding the door made with a big framed mercury mirror. The entire surface is made with rosewood with Brazilian rosewood reserves and refined inlays of "antemi" and spirals that are repeated on the framing bands of the reserves; on the top frame is inlaid a Greek fret; the inlaid frame of the door marks the mirror with a finely inlaid and gilded moulding. Light maple frames interrupt the ones made with rosewood and Brazilian rosewood while there is gold in the inlay of the door but also in the bronzes that complete the bases and the capitals of the columns and in the locks. The lock is marked F.Vago in Milan.

The wardrobe is the quintessential piece of furniture for organizing spaces. In every home, there are never enough antique wardrobes to store all objects, boxes, clothes, bags, books, and much more. A functional wardrobe adaptable to every room. It can be placed at the entrance to store jackets, coats, and bags. In the living room, besides filling the walls, if it’s an open space, it can be used as a partition between different areas. Bedroom wardrobes are definitely necessary. The perfect solution to arrange all garments sorted by type: sweatshirts, t-shirts, pants, socks, pajamas, skirts, suits, sweaters, and more. The bigger the wardrobe, the more effective the division can be. For example, in this way, within the wardrobe furniture, you can separate winter clothes from summer ones. These spaces are usually built-in wardrobes so as not to take up too much room. If, instead, you have a small space available, you will look for a small wardrobe that has well-organized interior spaces to fit all necessities. Thus, the wardrobe is necessary in all homes. Without it, organizing objects in a limited space would be impossible. In our catalogue, you can find dozens of antique wardrobes, mid-century, and design wardrobes ready to satisfy all your needs. Remember that all style wardrobes in our catalogue are also available for rental.

Antique wardrobes

The antique wardrobe started to be used in the 17th century, replacing the previous chests. A new way to organize garments. Antique wardrobes are still very appreciated today. The reason is that their function remains the same as in the past. Also, the aesthetics of most old wardrobes are quite simple and blend well with modern furnishings. It’s all about finding the right balance between antique and modern. Like all furnishings, antique wardrobes underwent significant changes following the social revolution. Before, furniture was mainly for representation; afterwards, they became functional wardrobes. The difference is that prior to the revolution, beauty and grandeur were sought to display wealth. Afterward, a new social class emerged: the bourgeoisie. They needed to fill their homes with new, prestigious furniture. Unlike nobles, however, they did not want to show social class but needed furniture to live with. So, functional wardrobes were produced without neglecting beauty. Naturally, the period wardrobe also followed contemporary fashion with minor variations depending on the region.
In our catalogue, you can find:

  • - 18th-century wardrobes
  • - 19th-century wardrobes
  • - Walnut antique wardrobes

and much more. One of the many advantages of buying from us is the possibility of using our restoration service. They will advise you on how to bring your new wardrobe back to its original beauty. This way, it’s impossible not to find the perfect wardrobe for you!

Mid-century wardrobes

Mid-century wardrobes can be immediately recognized compared to antique ones. At first glance, you can see that mid-century wardrobes have much simpler and cleaner lines compared to the elaborate antique furniture. In the mid-20th century, new materials and technologies were discovered, influencing furniture production. Handmade unique wardrobes transitioned to mass production, producing functional wardrobes that were all alike. This change might seem like a disadvantage but it isn’t. Thanks to this reality, furniture, and therefore antique wardrobes, became accessible to everyone. Even modest families could aspire to have high-quality furnishings at home. This was a very important step. Thanks to this, a new conception of interior spaces developed, and interior design gained importance. It’s important to find the best placement for your wardrobe. Wardrobes have always been subjects of unique designs by famous designers and companies. A fundamental piece in everyone’s home, it naturally appeared in prestigious designer collections. Our collection includes dozens of mid-century wardrobes such as:

  • - 1930s wardrobes
  • - 1940s wardrobes
  • - 1950s wardrobes
  • - 1960s wardrobes
  • - 1970s wardrobes
  • - Vintage wardrobes
  • - Design wardrobes
