A History of the Western Art Market

Titia Hulst
University of California Press

This is the first sourcebook to trace the emergence and evolution of art markets in the Western economy, framing them within the larger narrative of the ascendancy of capitalist markets. Selected writings from across academic disciplines present compelling evidence of art's inherent commercial dimension and show how artists, dealers, and collectors have interacted over time, from the city-states of Quattrocento Italy to the high-stakes markets of postmillennial New York and Beijing. This approach casts a startling new light on the traditional concerns of art history and aesthetics, revealing much that is provocative, profound, and occasionally even comic. This volume's unique historical perspective makes it appropriate for use in college courses and postgraduate and professional programs, as well as for professionals working in art-related environments such as museums, galleries, and auction houses.

Storia dell'arte

Maurizio Chelli
EdUP

Tramp Art

Long stored away in attics and basements, tramp art holds a unique place in the canon of American folk art. Primitive yet astoundingly intricate in their construction, these decorative objects are made through a process of layering elaborately notched pieces of wood to create ornate and multidimensional surfaces for boxes, picture frames, and other tabletop items as well as full-sized furniture pieces. Created during the Great Depression by itinerants. tramp art was often traded for food. All of the wood used was scrap and discard, mostly from wooden cigar boxes. Though there were never any written instructions, the technique for construction was apparently passed on like a secret family recipe.

Tramp Art: A Folk Art Phenomenon and the resulting exhibition consists of newly discovered pieces, many of them rare and unique all of them significant. The catalog will also include photographs of historic precursors to and Europe example of the craft.

Artist's book definition

The artist’s book was created in 2007. a paper work of art, developed in the form of book.
The book on art started to emerge around the 20th century.
What can we find different from other vintage books?
The innovation of images is presented in art catalogues!
With the combination of image, text and form, we are witnessing (until today) the creation of a new literary category: Art books.

Artist book or art book?

The art books have sub-categories within them, which are art catalogues and < strong>artists' monographs, on the other hand, the artist's book is; a work of art that is represented in a book.
