Description
First published issue of the Rivista Italiana di Psicoanalisi, founded in 1932 by Edoardo Weiss as the official organ of the Società Psicoanalitica Italiana. The Società Psicoanalitica was founded in 1925, but only in 1932, under the direction of Weiss, had it published the first magazine dedicated to the “knowledge acquired by humanity from the young science of psychoanalysis”, as specified in the Introduction: after having provided an overview of the psychoanalytic publications of other European nations, the introduction specifies that the purpose of the magazine is “to orient educated people on the fundamental concepts and possible developments of psychoanalysis”. The magazine will present, alongside the contributions of Italian psychoanalysts, also translations of articles and essays by major European scholars. Publications were interrupted in 1934 by the revocation of publishing permits by the fascist regime.
