Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Title, signature and date on the back. The reason for the bottle of champagne appears in other still lifes that Heel performed during the same period (See Guido, Guido Heel heel, Milan 1998, p. 163). The apparent frivolity of subject contrasts with the flawless assurance of design, which, invisibly, holds everything together and gives a tonal finesse, the result of an unerring eye. Harder is figuring out how the painter was able to communicate so much conviviality with a monochrome palette, that in other hands would create the opposite effect. In frame.
