Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1930 lower right. Mr Gaspare Gussoni (industrial in Busto Arsizio) was, if not the deus ex machina of the painting of “the Twentieth century”, one of the patrons the most generous. At his death he left a legacy of over 2,500 works of artists (including De Pisis, Sironi, De Chirico, Bartolena, and many others). Although he knew many artists, the only one from that Gussoni did portray was Guido Tallone. The heel began his career as a portrait painter in 1922 in the Brera; and integrated in the production elements of the painting in milan, from Ranzoni groove - favourite artists from the Gussoni in his first steps as a collector – in the typical manner self-possessed and direct, with whom he has also captured this image of Gaspare Gussoni. The work has been to the following exhibitions: - the XVIII Biennale International Art Exhibition in 1932. Catalogue, Venice the Palace of the Exposition, may-November 1932, p.113, n.25, Room 31 (The edition). - The Italian Art exhibition in Germany (touring to Munich-Stuttgart-Cologne-Kassel-Berlin-Leipzig-Hanover-Frankfurt), January-December 1933 (label on the reverse). - 50 years of art in Milan. Artist: Guido Tallone (1894-1967)

Born in Bergamo in 1894, Guido Tallone approached painting at a very young age under the guidance of his father Cesare, and studying at the Brera Academy. After the war, he began his career as a portraitist in 1919. In the early 1920s, he undertook numerous travels, during which he became friends with Ezra Pound and Hemingway and met Masson, Mirò, Kokoschka, Dix, Chagall, Klee. In 1930 he undertook a fervent exhibition activity in Milan, followed by his brother Ermanno, a gallery owner. His first exhibition at the Permanente in Milan dates back to 1923, in which he participated numerous times throughout his career. In 1930 he participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale, where he met his friend De Pisis; numerous other participations in subsequent editions followed, in the 1930s and 1940s. From 1941 he began paintings with interiors and objects dear to him and portrayed his family members. From 1945 until 1967 his exhibitions were countless throughout the world and especially in Milan (Galleria Gussoni, Galleria Cairola). Guido Tallone died in 1967.
