Son of the architect Ettore Sottsass senior after having studied architecture at the Polytechnic of Turin and graduated in 1939, he began his activity in Milan in 1947 where he opened his first design studio. In 1948 he joined the MAC (Movimento di Arte Concreta) group and took part in the first collective exhibition in Milan. Later he joined the Spatialism. In 1957 he became art director of Poltronova, the Agliana company, called by the entrepreneur Sergio Cammilli. In 1958 he began his collaboration with Olivetti. In 1959 he won the Compasso d'Oro. In 1972 he took part in the Italy: the new domestic landscape exhibition at the MoMA in New York. In 1981 he founded the Memphis group together with Hans Hollein, Arata Isozaki, Andrea Branzi, Michele de Lucchi and other international architects. Terrazzo deals with design and architecture until 1996, the year of the thirteenth and last issue. Numerous personal exhibitions have been dedicated to him: we remember the great exhibitions of the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris in 1994 and 2003, the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato in 1999, the Suntory Museum in Osaka in 2000, the Museo d 'Decorative Art of Cologne in 2004 and of the MART of Rovereto in 2005 curated by Milco Carboni.
