Oil painting on canvas. Not signed, but attributable to Angelo Pietrasanta, an Italian painter from the province of Milan who used to paint many portraits. He studied at the Brera Academy where he was Fancesco Hayez's disciple and was influenced by Giuseppe Bertini as well. Later, he moved to Florence where he attended Caffè Signorini and met many artists among which Telemaco Signorini. Pietrasanta used to portray many public characters such as Vittorio Emanuele II, King of Italy, but also less famous characters belonging to the emerging medium class. The painting is impressive for the intensity of the gaze, the accuracy of details, the brightness and strong realism. Some losses of colors, coeval frame. 19th century.
