Description : Madonna con Bambino

Oil painting on canvas. The painting is composed to imitate seventeenth-century pictorial methods: at the bottom of the frame there is a brass label with the words "Sienese school of the seventeenth century". The sacredness of the scene is emphasized only by the very thin halo on Mary's head: the woman and the Child are actually depicted as very earthly and popular figures, especially in the clothing of the mother; the figures are placed in a landscape decidedly in keeping with the homeland of Jesus, Palestine: in the desert, a village of Arab houses and, behind Mary's back, some palm trees. The painting has been subjected to aging treatment, through the artificial reproduction of a thick craquelure, to simulate the alleged ancient production. It is presented in a stylish frame.
