Description : La cena in Emmuas
Oil on canvas. Northern Italian school of the 17th-18th centuries. Taken from a passage from the Gospel of Luke that recounts an event that occurred after Christ's death on the cross, the scene tells how the risen Jesus, flanked along the road by two disciples who were fleeing from Jerusalem, after having conversed and having spoken of the Scriptures, in the evening. he stopped with them at an inn in Emmaus where, breaking the bread in the Eucharistic gesture, he made himself known, instilling their new hope and trust. The scene is set inside the inn, in the culminating moment of recognition of the breaking of the bread that Jesus holds in his hands. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a 19th century gilded frame, adapted.
