Description

This small volume testifies to the interest aroused by the publication in 1807 for the types of Bettoni of the Foscolian poem Dei Sepolcri. The printer Silvestri in the introductory note "To those who read" explains the criteria adopted for this new edition: "I follow the edition in 8, Brescia 1808, as the most correct after the two in 4, one from Brescia 1807 the other of Verona the following year; but the first contains only the Carme, and to the other only the poem by sig. Pindemonte ... It was also my intention to add several pamphlets around these verses to the booklet. But as a person who sincerely loves letters, I was advised to content myself with the translation of a Latin speech published by Mr. Gerolamo Federico Borgno on his version of 'Sepolcri ”. Also present, as indicated in the Publisher's preface taken from the Brescia 1808 edition, are the Epistle by Giovanni Torti on the compositions by Foscolo and Pindemonte and a fragment by Vincenzo Monti taken from the fifth unpublished canto of the Mascheroniana. At the end of the volume 8 poems by Foscolo
