Description : L' avenir de pierre
Ink on paper. Signed and dated lower right, where the title is also present. (The Stone Future). Lower left, the autograph dedication "A mon ami Osvaldo". This is a drawing by the artist who was one of the most important exponents of world surrealism, a poet and painter, but also a filmmaker, art and film critic, photographer and humorous illustrator. Since the end of the Sixties, Henry had settled permanently in Milan and had abandoned his activity as a humorous illustrator to devote himself almost exclusively to painting. However, he did not stop producing many drawings dedicated to friends and acquaintances, mainly in ink on paper, of a satirical/humorous nature. This drawing belongs to this production, which reveals the sure, linear and clean touch of Maurice Henry, and his satirical, albeit pessimistic, vision of a world that is evolving towards aridity. The work is presented in a visible frame.

Additional Information
Artist: Maurice Henry (1907-1984)
Born in the north of France, Maurice Henry settled in Paris in 1927, where he came into contact with a group of young poets and philosophers, with whom he founded the "Grand Jeu" movement. From 1928 he contributed texts, poems and drawings to the movement's magazine and in the meantime collaborated as an editor and reporter with various Parisian newspapers. In 1932, after the "Grand Jeu" experience was over, he moved on to the surrealist movement, collaborating on its publications and participating in its exhibitions. He met Salvador Dalí. In 1939 he also began his career as a filmmaker. In 1941 his first personal exhibition took place in Paris: the first buyer was Pablo Picasso. He participated in all the surrealist exhibitions, including the international one in Paris in 1947. In 1951, due to issues relating to internal discipline within the group, he left the surrealist movement with others, while continuing to practice its poetics. In the 1950s and 1960s, he also became known as a cartoonist and illustrator, collaborating with various magazines and newspapers. His cartoons, full of subtle humor and biting satire, earned him wide popularity. In 1955 he also became passionate about photography. From 1968 he devoted himself almost exclusively to painting, abandoning his activity as a humorous illustrator. In the same year he settled permanently in Milan: in Italy he exhibited in various solo exhibitions, those in Milan at the Galleria Marconi. Maurice Henry died in Milan in 1984.Age: Contemporary
