Oil on canvas. Inside an inn, which almost seems to be made in a cave, opening onto a rather barren countryside, some men eat, drink and relax at the table next to the fire, while a woman sitting on the floor watches them amused while eating. The figures are grotesque, almost caricatural, the colors earthy, to underline the peasant extraction of the scene. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in an ancient frame.

Oil on canvas. Inside an inn, some customers are playing cards: the man sitting on the left is cheating, hiding a card in the collar of his shabby jacket, under the amused gaze of the innkeeper who arrives. The figures are grotesque, almost caricatural; the colors are predominantly earthy, to emphasize the popular setting. Restored and relined (on the back is a restorer's label dated 1952), the painting is presented in an antique frame.

Early 1900s sideboard

Art Deco sideboard from the early 1900s. Made with two doors on the front concealing two drawers and open compartments, a monumental mirror rests on the top in breccia medicea marble. Two turned and carved feet on the back and two curly and carved feet on the front support the piece of furniture, which is curved on both the sides and the front with two large spaces in the uprights in which two turned and carved motifs with leaf and fruit motifs are placed. Mirror with semicircular cymatium carved in lambrecchino, on the side two vase holder elements with two candelabras in the center carved like those on the piece of furniture; the mirror rests on the marble thanks to six ebonized spheres. The entire surface is veneered in walnut root and alternates walnut carvings with some ebonized ones. Small missing parts.

Oval shape, the top is decorated in segments along its entire circumference, with the insert of ebonized cylinders, the central support leg is made from a large panel with a perforated wheel in the center with spokes and ebonized spheres. On the sides three uprights per side, made of walnut, turned and carved with leafy tufts, resting on ebonized spheres. The entire surface is veneered in walnut root, with carved inserts in walnut and ebonized walnut. Small missing parts.

Gli storici antichi scrivevano che Sibari era la colonia più fiorente della Magna Grecia, ma le rimproveravano tutti i vizi e i mali del mondo. Elaboravano narrazioni inverosimili in modo da farle coincidere con la storia, attuavano un processo di storicizzazione degli eventi mitici, diventavano essi stessi creatori di leggende. I racconti su Sibari devono divenire oggetto di analisi non solo per stabilire cosa c'è di vero o falso, ma per capire le ragioni e l'ideologia di chi li scriveva. L'esagerazione di geografi, storici e filosofi sulla sua magnificenza era funzionale all'esigenza di demonizzarla. L'accusa nei confronti di Sibari era semplice ma efficace: i coloni greci che l'avevano fondata erano etnicamente puri, ma, diventata crocevia di popoli diversi, diventarono impuri. Con le loro scelte politiche e di vita i Sibariti avevano smarrito lo spirito greco, nella polis erano stati i Greci a trasformarsi in barbari e non viceversa. Società meticce come Sibari, senza onore e senza patria, avevano favorito il declino dell'Eliade. La decadenza delle città greche, dovuta a una perdita di posizione strategica e politica, obbligava gli storici a rivedere il concetto di patria e a idealizzare un'identità forse mai esistita.
