Passata dai francesi agli spagnoli nel 1535, Milano ebbe un periodo di grande sviluppo; poi, duramente colpita dalla peste del 1630, cominciò a decadere, per rifiorire soltano quando fu sottomessa all'Austria nel 1706. In questo arco di tempo si snoda la ricerca di Canosa. La vita privata dei milanesi e dell'intero Ducato di Milano viene ripercorsa nei suoi momenti più significativi: da quello religioso a quello produttivo, da quello della famiglia, dell'amore, della stessa sessualità a quello delle feste, da quello del cibo a quello dell'abbigliamento, da quello culturale a quello dei rapporti fra le varie componenti sociali.

French chest of drawers from the Charles X period, made of oak veneered with mahogany feather, on the front it has four drawers, the first of which is inserted, under the top, in the typical groove band. Vase-shaped feet, black marble top.

Walnut workbench, drawer in the under-top band and in the apron, turned legs resting on wavy feet joined by a turned crosspiece. Italy, 19th century.

Oil on canvas. French school, 19th century. Monogram JP at the bottom left. In orientalist style, the painting portrays a young woman in oriental clothes, adorned with jewels, who is holding a parakeet in her hand. In Christian symbolism, this bird has a meaning of purity and innocence, while in more secular iconography it indicates elegance, communicative ability or, more generally, refers to exoticism. The painting is presented in a contemporary frame.

Oil on canvas. Unidentified signature lower right. This is a copy of the work, also a full-length one, by Domenico Morelli, called "Mater Purissima", created around 1880 and subject to numerous replicas and variations in the following decades. The work is presented in an early 20th-century frame.
