Una nuova frontiera della ricerca economica si situa all'intersezione fra le diverse dimensioni della società. Sempre più si esplorano territori di confine fra economia, storia, diritto, politica, istituzioni, letteratura. È uno sviluppo da salutare positivamente. Il volume propone approfondimenti su temi quali i fattori non economici della crescita, la centralità dell'ordinamento giuridico per l'efficienza della produzione e degli scambi, la storicità del pensiero e dei sistemi economici, le specificità strutturali e politiche del caso italiano. Per impostazione di metodo e scrittura queste pagine si rivolgono a chi si accosta all'economia movendo da altre esperienze culturali, non meno che agli economisti.

Questa monografia è frutto di una ricerca che da anni impegna i due autori e tratta dal punto di vista teorico i problemi legati alle risorse, alla tecnologia e alla rendita. Si tratta di temi che hanno una forte rilevanza nella storia e nella realtà economica in quanto il formidabile progresso tecnologico che stiamo vivendo non è affatto garanzia di eliminazione delle scarsità naturali, anzi sono subentrate nuove scarsità più complesse e mutevoli come quelle derivanti dai fattori ambientali. Analogamente il progresso tecnologico non ha eliminato la categoria della rendita, che ha assunto forme diverse e più complesse dell'antica rendita della terra.

È ormai diventata opinione dominante che la concorrenza sia tutto ciò che occorre per spingere un'economia all'efficienza. Ma dal punto di vista teorico questa è un'opinione corretta se non in condizioni irrealistiche. È quanto argomenta in questo saggio l'autore: questa visione, sostiene, ignora che gran parte del coordinamento delle decisioni e dei connessi guadagni di efficienza, nella realtà, sono il risultato di accordi che poggiano su relazioni personalizzate potenzialmente durature, di regole sociali che richiedono collettività dotate di stabilità e credibilità e di istituzioni che siano espressione di persone gelose della propria autonomia, soprattutto per quanto riguarda la formazione degli obiettivi perseguiti. Il modo in cui questi strumenti sono utilizzati può essere buono o cattivo, ma il loro uso è indispensabile. Il modo di vedere il funzionamento di un sistema economico e di affrontare i problemi che lo caratterizzano cambia in maniera sostanziale quando si adotta un'ottica di questo tipo. Tale mutamento di prospettiva viene messo in evidenza esaminando sia problemi attuali, come quello degli effetti dell'apertura allo scambio e della globalizzazione, sia l'evoluzione storica, con riferimento al caso italiano in particolare.

Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. French painter Charles Monginot became known for his still lifes and genre scenes, with recurring references to the world of hunting, as in this work. His works are characterized by intense realism and vivid colors, which often emerge from dark backgrounds. The work is presented in a contemporary gilded frame.

Vintage wall-mounted living room cabinet with exotic wood veneer, Formica inserts, and two light fixtures (not overhauled). It features shelves and open compartments, hinged doors, and drawers.

Antique mirror made in the 1900s. The frame with an arched cymatium is embellished with a double row of uprights carved with branches of small roses climbing up the arches, which are embellished in the cymatium with a sort of curtain composed of small carved strips. The surface is gilded.

France, Second Half XIX Century

French etagere table from the second half of the 19th century. Made with four curved, ebonized legs, two shelves connect to one another, and a top with a drawer in the front panel. The surface of the panel and shelves is veneered in ebony, bois de rose, and Indian walnut with maple and stained wood inlays.

Oil on panel. Northern European school, late 19th century. Inside a large, bare, yet bright, room with arched vaults, two men are playing dice; on a table to the side are their capes and hats, and beneath it a drum: it was probably a rest stop for soldiers and drummers. On the back of the work is a cartouche of participation in the 1892 Exposition Versaillese. The work is presented in a contemporary frame, with minor losses.

Hermès pure silk scarf with pleated detailing. Designed by Julie Abadie in shades of aquamarine and coral, with a nautical theme. It is in good condition, despite a small smudge in the center that does not preclude its use.

Bag designed by the historic Florentine leather goods company Gino Ferruzzi. The craftsmanship is very distinctive, using calfskin woven with reptile strips. In perfect condition.

Set of three "Sea"-themed watches. Fish Soup PWZ 106, Aquafun PMK 222, Bikini Beach Cappello GZS 35.

Basile bag dating back to the 1990s. It's made of electric blue calfskin, embellished with quilted embroidery using double-twisted thread. It's in near-perfect condition, with the exception of two small stains on the bottom.
