Oil on canvas. It is a study from life, probably for a larger scene, of the figure of a rower: the model is in the pose required for the character, with his foot resting on a step and his hands holding a generic stick, in the place of an oar. Although from an academic cut, it is well refined in the shapes, in the already complete anatomy, and in the chromatic choices. Restored and relined (unfortunately the restoration of colour is not very effective in some areas), it is presented in a frame in style.

Oil painting on canvas. English school. Signed lower right (L. Weston). The painting is accompanied by expert photos from the 1970s-1980s, which attributes it to Lambert Weston (1804-1895). It is presented in a stylish frame.

Probably wooden panels from the doors of furniture, the paintings have been recently mounted on wooden frames. They present some paint losses and spots, especially where the background is.

The subject is very close to the production of Pratella, who preferred the marinas of the bay of Naples, his hometown. It is also part of that large number of paintings whose attribution is uncertain, due to a stylistic quality that does not conform to Pratella's hand. However of good quality and pleasant in the atmosphere, the painting is presented in a frame.

Great Tapa of New Guinea

Fabric made from bark and decorated. Splendid example of art-craftsmanship, which refers to one of the most ancient methods to obtain clothes without resorting to weaving or weaving, but using the inner bark of certain tree species. It is a method that has been practiced in Central Africa, Southeast Asia, Japan, North America and from Mesoamerica to the Andes, the Amazon and the Gran Chaco regions. The term Tapa denotes in particular all the bark fabrics of Oceania, but in reality it is a word originating from the Fiji Islands. Depending on the area in which these bark tissues are produced, different tree species are used: while in Africa the fig tree is used, in Indonesia and the Pacific islands the most used bark is that of the mulberry tree from paper, with which the highest quality fabrics are produced, which remain white and can be decorated in different ways. If once the bark fabric was worn daily, even simply wrapped around the body, over the centuries it has been replaced by cotton, but still today it is preferred to Western fabrics for ritual and ceremonial occasions; above all, these fabrics continue to be important exchange goods, gifts of value on occasions of births, birthdays, weddings (with exchanges between the relatives of the groom and those of the bride), funerals and ceremonial presentations to the royal family. Added to this is the production fueled by the flourishing tourist market of this fabric. The tapa presented here is decorated with repeated geometric motifs, which evoke the huts and the street of the village. The upper edge is not straight, but shaped with large triangular fringes. It is presented mounted on a panel and closed in a plexiglass case.

Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph Oil On Canvas 19th Century

Oil on canvas. This is a smaller reproduction of the original painting by Rembrandt in 1656, displayed today at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Kassel. The scene portrays the episode told in the Book of Genesis: Jacob, on his deathbed and now blind, lays his hands on the two sons of Joseph, born in the land of Egypt, including them in the plan of salvation to which God had called Abraham, Isaac and all of their descendants. The painting has many but small paint losses and small scratches, that need restoration.

Little Dogs In The Living Room 1886

Oil on canvas. Signature of the artist, date bottom left, the name "Fox" under the black dog: a paper label on the back explains, with the title, that Fox is the name of the dog. On the back, there is another label from the Art Gallery of Montecatini, where the painting has been displayed in 1972. Filippo Palizzi, originally from Vasto but artistically trained in Naples, represents, along with his brother, the first attempt of Realism in the Italian painting of 1800, in the footsteps of the Neapolitan School. He was called the "animals painter", but he also mainly represented glimpses of rustic corners and views of Naples and its surroundings. He was one of the first painters to be interested in photography and practice it, and he often used his or other's photographs as a model for his paintings. The painting is presented in a frame in style.
