Oil on canvas. The center of the scene is down in the middle where there is Baby Jesus to who lead all the looks and postures of shepherd and beasts on the right and of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph on the left; above Jesus there is a couple of angels opening the sky to let a ray of light pass through; in the middle, in the background the landscape leads to a illuminated mount. Jacopo Basso (1515-1592) often painted the theme of Adoration of the Shephers, porposing it in the same compositive way and style; it was also widely recovered by his workshop. Jacopo from Ponte was known as Bassano because of his hometown where hi lived and worke his entire life; even if he studied at the venetian school of painting and it was inspired by Mannerism during his youth he developed his own style capable of painting human figures and animals catching the right light and paying attention to the details as in the religious subjects where evene the human figures are painted item by item creating lively, creative and not repetitive compositions. The painting had been restored and displayd in a frame made with ancient wood that had been connected by readjusting them and gilding them again.
