Description
Ambitious annual publication by the publisher Paolo Ripamonti Carpano, who we know above all thanks to his precious Strenne illustrated with beautiful chromolithographs, welcome gifts on the occasion of New Year's Eve in the families of the 19th century bourgeoisie. Published starting in 1845, suspended in 1849 and resumed in 1852, the Gemme d'arti italiane had the ambitious aim of presenting themselves as a brief excursus of the artistic panorama of the moment through engravings and descriptions of works by painters and sculptors of the time. In our volume we propose 9 beautiful copper-engraved plates accompanied by a historical-artistic commentary (among the painters represented are Gerolamo and Domenico Induno and Francesco Hayez), preceded by a double frontispiece (the second in chromolithograph), the dedication to Don Emmanuele Falcò in a beautiful chromolithographic frame and a long introduction by Antonio Zoncada. The tables are followed by Notes on the Exhibition of Fine Arts in Brera for the year 1853, Memories of the public Exhibition of Fine Arts in the Academy of Venice (August 1853) and the Index of the Heads of Art and their Authors from year I to VI.
