Description : Personaggi
Watercolor on paper, mounted on canvas. Signed lower right. Giuseppe Migneco, originally from Messina but who moved to Milan at a young age, was one of the leading representatives, along with Aligi Sassu, Renato Birolli, Bruno Cassinari, and Renato Guttuso, of the Corrente group, open to the European artistic avant-garde. Advocating socially engaged painting, he explores reality with a critical, objective, and historical eye. His characters, with their hard, square faces, marked by hard work and rendered in bright, strong tones, recall his native Sicily, with its violent, sharp features, but also the social realism of Mexican muralists. Framed.

Additional Information
Artist: Giuseppe Migneco (1908-1997)
Born in Messina in 1903, Giuseppe Migneco, after completing his classical studies in his hometown, moved to Milan in 1931, where he began studying medicine. There, he earned a living and began his career in art, drawing sketches for the "Corriere dei Piccoli" and working as a retoucher for the publisher Rizzoli. During this period, he began painting, creating autobiographical works. A turning point came in 1934. Migneco met Aligi Sassu, Renato Birolli, and Raffaele De Grada, all of whom he was captivated by. In 1937, he was among the founders of the "Corrente" movement, which brought together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. After the war, Migneco refined his taste for "social realism," influenced by Mexican mural painters. One admirer described him as "a wood carver who sculpts with a brush." By the 1950s, his consolidated fame had established Giuseppe Migneco as a master of contemporary Italian art. He exhibited in the most prestigious galleries in Italy and abroad: Gothenburg, Boston, Paris, Stuttgart, New York, Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Zurich. He participated in five editions of the Venice International Art Exhibition and five editions of the Rome Quadrennial. He died in Milan in 1997.Age: Contemporary

Technical specification: Watercolor
