Designer: Marco Zanuso
Marco Zanuso (1916 - 2001) was an Italian architect and designer. He is considered one of the founding fathers of Italian industrial design. He contributed to the postwar debate on the "modern movement" in architecture and design. Zanuso was one of the very first to take an interest in the problems of product industrialization and the application of new materials and technologies to everyday objects. Graduated in 1939, he was editor of the magazines Domus (1947-49) and Casabella (1952-54), and founding member (1956) and president of the Association for Industrial Design (1966-69). Together with Alberto Rosselli he designed the three-dimensional Compasso d'oro, based on a design by Albe Steiner. In 1948 Pirelli founded Arflex, to produce upholstered furniture in foam rubber: Marco Zanuso is in charge of designing. In 1954 he was a member of the jury of the Compasso d'Oro Award with Aldo Borletti, Cesare Brustio, Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli. In 1955 he was a member of the jury of the Compasso d'Oro Award with Aldo Borletti, Cesare Brustio, Ernesto Nathan Rogers and Alberto Rosselli.Find out more about Marco Zanuso with our insights:
