Art Carpets. Cleto Munari and Friends

Marco Fazzini
Skira Editore / Moret

The first book to exclusively present Cleto Munari's latest creations in the field of the applied arts: a unique collection of art carpets. Cleto Munari was born in Gorizia and he lives and works in Vicenza. After meeting Carlo Scarpa in 1973, who encouraged him in his work, he decided to focus his attention on the area of industrial design, and began to work for some of the most important companies in the world. Constantly in search of original ideas, over the years he has tirelessly been engaged in analyzing and experimenting with both forms and material. In 1985 he opened a laboratory-studio-jeweler's, where, together with a group of worldclass architects, he designs and produces silver jewelry and other objects for avant-garde collections that truly represent historical revolutions in jewelry both in Italy and abroad, and have also led to the production of watches, pens and furniture. Cleto Munari's objects have entered the permanent collections of some of the world's top museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This book is the first to exclusively present Cleto Munari's latest creations in the field of the applied arts. After his jewelery, silverware, watches and furnishings, the great designer has involved ten other designers and artists in the creation of a unique collection of art carpets. Signed by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Dario Fo, Mario Botta, Alessandro Mendini, Javier Mariscal, Ettore Mochetti, Deisa Centazzo, Sandro Chia, Mimmo Paladino and by Cleto Munari himself, these creations are full-fledged works of art and represent the high point of the skills and expertise of one of the greatest creative designers in the world, who has been designing and producing for over forty years.

No more boring lamps and lights! Many countries around the world have already banned or are in the process of phasing out traditional incandescent light bulbs in favor of more energyefficient lighting. Because these familiar sources of illumination are becoming extinct, the areas of lighting and light design are currently experiencing significant changes. New technologies such as LEDs and OLEDs are inspiring both designers and manufacturers to develop new forms, functionalities, structures, and constructions. Lux describes and documents this current evolution in lighting and light design. The book presents an eclectic collection of up-to-the-minutelightrelated projects, focusing on their impact on areas such as product design, technology, and art. Because existing lamp forms and silhouettes often serve as the basis for cutting-edge work or are being integrated into new technologies and aesthetics in a playful way, Lux features innovative and surprising ideas for chandeliers and classic table, wall, and hanging lamps. The book shows how recently developed light sources that radiate less heat can be combined with a far broader spectrum of materials than we have ever seen before. It also presents examples of experimental installations with light as well as ways in which illumination is being used to enhance an atmosphere, create objects, or structure space. In short, Lux features an inspiring range of current approaches to the use of light that represent a fundamental change in the technical and aesthetic possibilities available.

Fare l'automobile. Con interviste a grandi car designer

Mario Favilla, Aldo Agnelli
Fondazione Cologni-Marsilio

"This publication ... represents a significant step forward in devising a structured methodological approach to assessing excellence in the artistic crafts. By examining and comparing Italian and European legislation and regulations governing craft production, the authors were able to identify a number of recurring concept-terms underpinning craft excellence. These were then narrowed down to a list of 11 criteria: those directly related to the artisan's skill (competence, creativity, interpretation, talent, training); those regarding relational and territorial aspects (territory, tradition); and those concerned with the product itself (authenticity, craftsmanship, innovation, originality). Interviews with leading master artisans from different European countries and influential experts in the field of the artistic crafts, backed up by a nationwide survey to gauge the views of the wider Italian population, helped to confirm the validity of the matrix and the classification system that emerged from this process ... The proposed assessment matrix not only serves as a new tool to aid our understanding and assessment of excellence, but also offers invaluable support to those who aspire to achieve that excellence."--Front cover flap.
