Una madre e sua figlia hanno iniziato a viaggiare nel 1981, spinte dalla voglia di avventurarsi sulle montagne himalayane, guidate dal gusto dell'esplorazione. Nel corso degli anni, però, durante il loro peregrinare sui sentieri di tutti i continenti, Carla ha viaggiato animata da una crescente curiosità per tutto ciò che è diverso dal nostro modo di vivere; Cristina, per sfidare se stessa, spinta dalla propria sete di libertà e di infinito. Questo modo un po' speciale di visitare luoghi e genti così diverse da noi si è rivelato fin da subito un viaggio alla scoperta di sé stessi, una ricerca continua del senso del vivere, con un filo conduttore teso al punto giusto perché ogni storia s'incolli alla memoria. Da questa esperienza è nata l'associazione onlus che porta appunto il nome del villaggio himalayano dove il tempo si è fermato: Shangri La.
