Giuseppe Migneco, originally from Messina but who moved to Milan at a young age, was one of the leading representatives, along with Aligi Sassu, Renato Birolli, Bruno Cassinari, and Renato Guttuso, of the Corrente group, open to the European artistic avant-garde. Advocating socially engaged painting, he explores reality with a critical, objective, and historical eye. His characters, with their hard, square faces, marked by hard work and rendered in bright, strong tones, recall his native Sicily, with its violent, sharp features, but also the social realism of Mexican muralists. Framed.

Calendula Flowers1991

Indian ink on paper, signed lower right. Accompanied by a photo certificate signed by the artist. Label with artwork details on the back. Ennio Morlotti was a leading exponent of Italian Informalism, in its naturalistic form. His painting style leans toward a "neo-naturalism" of Lombard influence, with predominantly landscape themes. Framed.

Jester's Study 1968

Mixed media on paper. Signed. The drawing is accompanied by a letter signed by Dario Fo, dated 1968, addressed to Mrs. Elena Pelizzoni of Ceramica Fiori Oscuri, in which the great artist explains that he was inspired to create this sketch in the hope of participating in the creation of a series of wall plates for the factory, signed by a number of renowned artists. Dario Fo created a study for the figure of a Jester, an epithet attributed to him both literally, for his artistic figure linked to the tradition of medieval jesters, and figuratively, as one who "mocks power by restoring dignity to the oppressed," as cited in the citation for the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to him in 1997. Dario Fo was an Italian playwright, actor, director, writer, author, illustrator, painter, set designer, activist, and comedian. Framed artwork.

Italy Mid 18th Century

Walnut chest, made in the first half of the 18th century, with carved feet resembling horseshoes, a front divided by relief frames, and wrought iron hinges. The surface was lacquered in our workshop with natural varnishes, preserving the reversibility of the furniture to its original condition.

The Man in the Kitchen

Mixed media on paper. Signed lower center. The renowned Russian set designer, painter, and illustrator Nicola Benois, who was the chief set designer at Milan's Teatro Alla Scala from 1935, contributed some of his drawings in 1977 to illustrate Francesco de' Rogati's book, "La cucina dell' uomo solo" (SM editore, 1977). Presented here is an original drawing, which was later used as an illustration for the text, printed in a smaller format. Framed.
