Description
An ambitious annual publication by publisher Paolo Ripamonti Carpano, best known for his precious Christmas gifts, illustrated with beautiful chromolithographs, which were popular New Year's gifts for 19th-century bourgeois families. Published beginning in 1845, suspended in 1849, and resumed in 1852, the Gemme d'arti italiane had the ambitious aim of presenting a brief overview of the contemporary artistic scene through engravings and descriptions of works by contemporary painters and sculptors. Our volume features 16 beautiful copper-engraved plates, preceded by a double title page, a dedication to Domenico Lo Faso-Pietrasanta, and a preliminary note by Cesare Correnti.
