Description
Giulio Ferrario accompanies us on this journey to the Holy Land, leading us step by step through the places, stories and monuments of Palestine using as sources the countless travel reports dedicated to this land. The various chapters are accompanied by 33 coloured plates of monuments, sacred places and local customs. The occasion for the publication of the work is the wedding of Carlo Castelbarco Visconti and Antonia Litta Visconti Arese on 15 June 1831: in the Introduction the author declares that he wants to amend his excessive interest in “profane antiquities” in the chapters dedicated to Palestine in his encyclopaedic work “Il costume antico e moderno di tutti i popoli”; greater attention to the Christian context of the Holy Places and the desire to update the descriptions with the most recent travel reports are the pretexts for this interesting monograph
