Additional Information

Artist: Cesare Ferreri (1802-1859)

Cesare Ferreri, born in Pavia, demonstrated an interesting talent for painting from a young age, becoming Garavaglia's favorite student. During his apprenticeship, Ferreri also attended courses at a school of nude painting. In 1823, despite attending school, he received several important commissions from Count Vidoni of Cremona for the volume "Le pitture cremonesi illustrate," published the following year in Milan. After leaving school, he worked tirelessly for other publishers. In 1833, he took up the post of director of the Gravaglia school. Among the teaching materials used by Ferreri for the school are some rare engravings, including a series of proofs demonstrating his working method and engraving reproductions of works such as Guido Reni's "The Assumption" and Raphael's "The Virgin and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist." In October 1854 he resigned from the direction of the school for health reasons and finally died in Pavia on November 13, 1859.
