Dopo i primi e più celebri testi sulla tecnica della psicoanalisi, quello di Glover e quello di Fenichel, in pochissimi hanno osato affrontare uno studio sistematico di tale argomento. Questo libro di Etchegoyen è un'impresa che ha l'intento di abbracciare tutti i problemi della tecnica. "Il mio proposito - scrive l'autore - è offrire al lettore un quadro completo della materia nella sua problematica attuale, con le linee teoriche che la percorrono dal passato al presente e uno sguardo al possibile futuro". Un libro concepito e scritto da una sola persona ha vantaggi evidenti, in esso però si nasconde un pericolo: l'autore ha una sua concezione teorica che potrebbe privilegiare rispetto alle altre, o per lo meno, che capisce meglio di tutte, e ciò lo espone al rischio dell'unilateralità. Questa è la sfida. Etchegoyen ne è consapevole e ritiene di poterla accettare: "Quanto più leggo e rileggo, quanto più penso e osservo il paziente sul divano, tanto meno mi sento incline a posizioni estreme e univoche, e più mi mantengo lontano sia dall'eclettismo compiacente sia dalle posizioni scolastiche". D'altronde Etchegoyen non rinuncia a far conoscere al lettore le proprie convinzioni, ma lo fa esplicitamente, mantenendo sempre nettamente distinti il piano dell'esposizione da quello delle valutazioni personali.

Travel trunk in wood covered with iron foil straps fixed with studs. The metal bands are adorned with a decoration of plant racemes with flowers, made with a burin. The reserves between the metal foils are covered in velvet, now abraded adorned with a quadrangular motif with foil.

Crayons on paper. Along the bottom edge of the boy's portrait is the inscription "Cesare Ferreri drew in reminiscence". The artist from Pavia devoted himself primarily to engraving, which he also taught at the drawing school of the University of Pavia, where he was director for a long time after the death of his teacher Giovita Garavaglia. The two portraits are presented in contemporary gilded frames (regilded).

Nel 1975 assieme a Renato Bazzoni fonda il FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) per la tutela e valorizzazione del patrimonio artistico e ambientale. Da 40 anni lotta strenuamente per difendere l'agricoltura in Italia, in particolare quella organica.
