Additional Information
Artist: Giulio Da Vicchio (1925-2004)
Born in Vicchio di Mugello in 1925, Giulio was the son of the famous Ferruccio Rontini, who mentored him in his artistic development. He chose not to keep his surname to avoid exploiting his fame. Giulio Da Vicchio's initial artistic development was linked to his homeland, Mugello, and his stay in Livorno. This period focused on the pursuit of technical perfection, the study of "real life," and the absorption of emotions, atmospheres, and human values. The primary subjects of this period were landscapes, but his work also reflected a study and interest in pensioners, farmers, and fishermen, subjects that would later become defining features of his work. In the early 1950s, he traveled first to Denmark and then to the Netherlands, achieving considerable critical and public acclaim. However, he soon decided to return to Italy, increasingly convinced that his true place was there. In 1954, convinced of the importance of direct contact with clients, Giulio decided to open the so-called "city studio" with his father, located on Via Mayer near Piazza Cavour. In 1956, thanks to a fortunate coincidence, he spent eight months in Sicily, a land that, with its passion and colors, literally captured his soul. Giulio da Vischio was literally struck by that vibrant atmosphere, rich in mystery and with so much to discover, which led him to revisit the same favorite subjects: the faces of farmers and fishermen, depicted as almost sculptural groups of fused figures, linked together in the gestures that have always characterized their work to glorify life. With his wife, he then returned to Livorno where, in 1961, he was invited by the master Gino Romiti to join the Gruppo Labronico; In the late 1980s, he became Vice President under Alberto Zampieri, reaching the prestigious position of President in 1991, but resigned after just two years due to misunderstandings within the board of directors. From 1957 to 1973, he presented his works in solo and group exhibitions in Catania, Piacenza, Parma, Cremona, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Sanremo, Milan, Toronto (Canada), and Paris. However, given the numerous commercial requests, he decided, in the following years, to devote himself primarily to painting and client care rather than exhibitions. Thus, for a long period, he retreated to work intensely in his studio in Livorno. Only in the third period of his life did Da Vicchio shift to an intimate and poetic interpretation of landscapes.

Technical specification: Oil on Canvas
