Fuller's Spiral Slide Rule

Fuller's cylindrical slide rule. It consists of an outer wooden cylinder that slides up and down and rotates, covered with paper marked with a graduated spiral logarithmic scale; inside is a longer wooden cylinder, also covered with paper marked with decimal tables. A brass index is screwed to the top of the neck, a second, longer brass index is screwed to the mahogany base and marked with a scale. The outer sliding cylinder is marked near the top: “FULLERS SPIRAL SLIDE RULE”; at the bottom it's marked: “ENTD. STATS. HALL / STANLEY, Maker, LONDON". The upper part of the long brass index is engraved: 1791 (/) 1903, for which it can be assumed (as for another similar specimen, preserved at the National Museum of American History) that the first is the serial number, while the second the year of completion. George Fuller, professor of civil engineering at Queen's University in Belfast, Ireland, patented this instrument in 1878; the Stanley firm produced about 14,000 Fuller spiral slide rules in nearly a hundred years.

"Baradelle a Paris"

Theodolite in gilded brass, with fixed and movable alidade central compass; signed on the underside "Baradelle a Paris". Baradelle was a French family of makers of scientific instruments; their production includes that of the father Jean-Louis-Jacques (active from 1752 to 1794) and his son Nicholas Eloi (active from 1774 to 1814), both signing indiscriminately with the sole surname. There is the painted and gilded wooden base with phytomorphic motifs as well. A similar theodolite belongs to the English collections of the Science Museum Group.

Gilded brass monocular with extensible bosy; the end is enamelled and decorated with gilded phitomorphic gyrals.

19th Century / 1801 - 1900, 17th Century / 1601 - 1700

Brass and steel iron scale with spring system; it comes with 3 sets of cup weights; one consisting of six elements, two with houses (the outermost weight in the form of a case with a lid) and with six and five weights respectively. The latter, which is older than the rest of the lot and dates back to the 17th century, is stamped with a chalice on the outer part, while each of the inner weights has a triangle within which a six-pointed star is inscribed.

Pocket watch with visible movement. Spring loaded 8 days. Shows slightly worn.

Pair of gilt bronze table lamps with marble base. Cornucopia-shaped arms, ring socket and fabric lampshades.

Bronze pocket watch. Enamelled metal display with finely pierced bronze hands.

Portugal, first Half of the XX Century

Embossed and pierced silver oil cruet with plant motifs, garlands and bows. Silver and silversmith's mark engraved on the front of the base. Bevelled glass cruets with gold decorations. Grams 540.

England 20th century

Tankard in silver-plated metal with plant motifs decorations and leaf volutes. Brands engraved under the base.

20th Century / 1901 - 2000

Countertop clock with shelf in mahogany stained wood. Silver-colored patinated metal display with Arabic numeral hours protected by a beveled glass door. Mechanism marked "Junghans".

France Second half of the 19th century

Triptych clock in gilded and chiseled bronze. The clock has a wide base with leaf scroll decorations and finely engraved plant motifs on which rests the clock case adorned with flower garlands closed with ribbon. At the top, a cup-shaped vase with a floral composition. Enamelled metal display with hours in Roman numerals and minutes in Arabic numerals protected by a lid with curved glass. The hands are in finely pierced gilt bronze. The mechanism is marked Japy Fils 1855. The pair of gilded and chiseled bronze candelabra with five flames measure a height of 55 centimeters.

Italy, XIX Century

Horse in carved wood covered in leather on a coeval base. The attention to detail highlights the good sculptural ability of the anonymous artist.

Polychrome painted concrete garden gnome. Engraved signature of the author N. Malerbi.

France, Late XIX Century

Pair of Rouge Griotte marble vases mounted on bronze patinated metal. Decorations with vegetable and zoomorphic motifs; feral-shaped feet.

Hamburg 1837 - 1862

Sextant "D. Filby Hamburg" in ebonized wood, brass and bone, vernier with adjustment screw, three colored filters for the fixed mirror and four for the mobile one, sighting telescope with optics. Contained in a wooden box in mahogany.

France XIX Century

Bronze candle holder with a late 19th century statue depicting a female figure. The statue holds a circular saucer and rests on a bronze base from the early 19th century with gilded decorations with plant motifs and garlands held in place by studs.

Soapstone sculpture depicting a Guanyin with a basket of flowers. Finely carved with beautiful workmanship of the drapery and attention to detail. Republic period.

Italy Late 19th century Early 20th century

Patinated plaster sculpture depicting the blessing Infant Jesus mounted on a wooden panel covered in non-coeval velvet.
