Description : Evento
Acrylic and black sand on canvas. Signature, date, and title on the back. Ferrari's work has developed entirely around the sign, passing through various interpretative phases. Since the 1980s, specifically since 1983, the sign has become the undisputed protagonist of Eventi, works in which he uses writing not to narrate, but to "fix" itself on a "symbol of page time." The sign is completely free of superstructures and is able to express itself in its entirety, manifesting dynamically across the entire surface of the painting. Represented as linear writing, the sign appears as if shouted. These works are created with black sand from Otranto, a material that allows him to express the full theatricality of the sign and which still today represents the fundamental element of his painting: through the sand, the sign traces its paths within the space of the painting and beyond. The work features stains of humidity.

Additional Information
Artist: Agostino Ferrari (1938)
Born in Milan in 1938, Agostino Ferrari was drawn to the world of art from childhood. After completing his scientific studies, he began painting in 1959, the year he met Remo Brindisi, who immediately welcomed him to work in his studio. His first solo exhibition opened in 1961 at the Pater Gallery in Milan, with an introduction by Giorgio Kaisserlian. The works of his early years, which Ferrari groups under the terms Natura Paesaggio Circostante (Nature, Surrounding Landscape), focus on the landscape of Milan's industrial suburbs in the late 1950s. Although these are aniconic paintings still influenced by a certain Art Informel, they express a strong naturalistic influence. In 2005, Ferrari was invited to the Rome Quadriennale, within the Contemporary Art section. Agostino Ferrari's entire poetics developed around the sign, characterizing his most distinctive expressive signature, and then renewing and transforming over time. From the early 1960s onwards, his painting has been an investigation of a primordial sign-writing, advanced within the Cenobio group, and continued with the inclusion of spatial and theatrical dimensions as another key element. In the 1970s, Ferrari began to focus on the psychological values of color, culminating in the creation of the Self-Portrait, the only installation of his career. Subsequently, his attention returned to the pictorial sign, which becomes a narrative, and then evolves within the space of the canvas, thanks also to the use of black sand, until it emerges from the surface, becoming objectified. Agostino Ferrari lives and works in Milan.Age: Contemporary

Technical specification: Mixed Technique
